Our method
How We Research Tesla Accessories
A Tesla accessory is only a good buy if it fits your exact car. Everything on EV Gear Lab starts from that rule — here is the process behind every recommendation.
01
Shortlist with a research score
Every candidate accessory is scored out of 100 on the seven signals below. Signals we cannot verify are marked unknown and left out of the calculation, so a score is never padded with guesses. Weak candidates never reach the site.
02
Record fitment by model, generation and year
We store what the manufacturer or seller actually states: the Tesla model, the generation (Highland, Juniper and earlier cars are treated as different vehicles), the model-year range and, where it matters, the seat layout. Each record carries a status — Fits, Verify before buying, or Does not fit.
03
Never infer a fit
If a listing does not name the 2025-2026 Model Y Juniper, we do not claim it fits a Juniper — even when it probably does. Shaped parts like floor liners, console trays and screen protectors changed between generations, and a wrong guess means a return.
04
Editorial review before anything goes live
A product flagged for review cannot be published. Before a listing appears, an editor checks the fitment record, writes the pros and limitations, and notes who the product is — and is not — for.
05
Keep it current
Guides show when they were last reviewed. When Tesla refreshes a model or a seller changes a listing, we update the record. Spot an error? Tell us and we will correct it.
The research score
Seven weighted signals, 100 points. Fitment carries the most weight because an accessory that does not fit your car is worthless, however good it is. Affiliate commission is not one of the signals.
25
Fitment confidence
Does the maker state the exact Tesla model, generation and year range? The single biggest factor.
20
Owner demand
Is this something Tesla owners actually buy and keep, rather than a novelty?
15
Reviews & build quality
What verified owners report about fit, materials and durability after months of use.
10
Competition
Is there a clearly better option in the same category we should recommend instead?
10
Price & value
Is the price reasonable for what it does compared with the alternatives?
10
Availability
Is it reliably in stock on Amazon US, with normal shipping?
10
Reader usefulness
Does it answer a question owners are actually searching for?
What we are — and are not
- Research-based, not a lab. Our assessments are built from manufacturer specifications, stated fitment and what owners report — not in-house lab tests. We say so plainly so you can weigh our advice.
- Independent. EV Gear Lab is not affiliated with or endorsed by Tesla, Inc. or any accessory brand.
- No stale prices. Amazon prices and ratings change daily, so we link you to the live listing instead of printing a number that may already be wrong.
How we make money
When you buy through our links, Amazon pays us a small commission. You pay the same price either way. That commission is what funds the research — and because a product that gets returned earns nothing, recommending accessories that genuinely fit is also the only approach that works for us. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Found a fitment error?
Owners catch things listings miss. If a product we list did not fit your car, tell us the model, generation and year and we will review the record.
